MoonHill Productions aims to keep filming in Pasadena
By Kevin Smith, Staff Writer
PASADENA - Peddling scripts is a tough sell.
But the process is a lot easier when you've got your own production company. That's certainly been the case for Richard Moon.
Moon, who founded MoonHill Productions early last year, along with his wife Isabel Junie Hildebrandt, used to try to sell his scripts via the traditional route. But it was hard to generate interest.
"I've been writing spec scripts and doing the pitch scene for a few years now and I was just getting a little discouraged," the 33-year-old Altadena resident said. "It's very hard to sell a screenplay to someone, even if they're desperate for one. You are essentially saying, `Hey, I have some daydreams and could you spend the next three years of your life - and pay me $70,000 - to get a film made? It's really a hard sell when you think about it."
The couple ultimately opted to establish MoonHill Productions, a Pasadena-based business that promotes and supports his script work. "I realized it would be a lot easier to go into the conversation with the attitude of `I've got this great product and if you will invest in me I'll get it made, and I'll get your investment back,"' Moon said. "We've had a ridiculous amount of luck so far."
